On Wednesday, November 16th the Texas Plains Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will host the 25th anniversary of National Philanthropy Day (NPD). This luncheon celebrates philanthropy by honoring local benefactors. National Philanthropy Day provides nonprofit organizations the unique opportunity to recognize the efforts of a variety of donors who make the charitable work they do every day possible. NPD is a national event that is celebrated in hundreds of communities throughout the nation to recognize and honor the significant contributions that philanthropy has made to our lives, our communities, our nation, and our world.
The main activity during National Philanthropy Day is an award ceremony recognizing those who have contributed outstanding service in the field of philanthropy. The categories are designed to recognize a range of philanthropists, from the donor who has made sizeable gifts, to the volunteer fundraiser whose time and effort created charitable significance in the community. Giving may be considered important for either one-time, special donations or over a lifetime, and it may be for one or multiple organizations. We invite you to review the various award categories and the nomination forms; then, take the time to submit nominations as appropriate. This year's award categories are:
• Outstanding Philanthropist
• Outstanding Business/Corporation
• Outstanding Community Service Organization
• Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
• Outstanding Foundation
• Outstanding Fundraising Professional
• Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (Individual) (age 5 to 18)
